Summary

From 4 to 14 June, the Programme Office organised seven training courses for 140 local teachers of the Khatlon province, in particular reaching out to towns situated in southern Tajikistan in close proximity to Afghanistan. The activity aimed to improve local teacher’s understanding of VERLT, as well as to equip them with skills to prevent violent extremism among youth. On 24 and 25 June, the Office organised similar training courses for 40 teachers from Lakhsh and Tojikobod in Rasht valley. The courses were delivered by two national trainers and based on the UNESCO Teacher’s Guidebook on PVE.

From 2 to 5 July, the Office, in co-operation with UNESCO, organised four one-day training courses for 80 local teachers and educators in Sughd province. The activity aimed to raise local teachers’ awareness on issues of violent extremism, while making use of UNESCO’s “Teacher’s Guidebook on Preventing Violent Extremism”. An international expert from UNESCO and two national experts conducted the training and disseminated the guidebook to participants, which is now also available in Russian and Tajik.
