Description

Summary

This lesson could save your life, so pay attention to the whole of it. Most police duties are routine and mundane. However, the potential for danger is always there. The job of a police officer requires the enforcement of laws and the control of illegal or disruptive actions of some people. Anyone can inflict serious injury or death upon you. Without a clear understanding of police officer safety and survival skills, you can become complacent and endanger yourself and others. Officer survival is defined as: ‘The active and continual practice of safe and sound police tactics that are designed to prevent an officer’s injury or death’.

This lesson provides background information on officer safety and survival skills. Later lessons on arrests and detention, and defensive tactics will build upon the foundations laid throughout this lesson.

The goal of this lesson is to provide students with officer safety and survival concepts to ensure the safety and efficiency of performance while on-duty.
