Summary

The goal of this lesson is to provide Police Inspectorate staff with an introduction to the theory and practice of how organisations are structured and its importance the use PIK Protocols.

When you have completed this Lesson you will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic differences between a simple, a functional, and a divisional organisational structure
  2. Explain the most common functions which can be found in an organisation
  3. Give examples of the types of divisions which can be found in an organisation
  4. Identify what happens if the structure changes
  5. Explain what can happen as a result of an inappropriate Span of Control
  6. Describe the key differences between Private Sector, Public Sector, Voluntary Sector and Public Service organisations
