Summary

International police co-operation is very important in these days to prevent, detect and investigate many crimes, especially organised crimes. Current work of different international police organisations is largely related to public safety and terrorism, organised crime, illicit drug production and trafficking, weapons smuggling, trafficking in human beings, money laundering, financial and high tech crime and corruption.

Some basic pieces of information about international police co-operation, about Interpol, Europol, S.I.R.E.N.E, Eurojust, and SECI are presented and explained in this lesson. It will help you to understand some basic problems in investigation of transnational organised crimes.

The goal of this lesson is to provide the KPS officers with the basic terms about Interpol.

At the conclusion of this lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the Interpol’s mission and its organisation.
  2. List the three Interpol’s core functions.
  3. Explain the activities of the Command and Co-ordination Centre
  4. Become familiar with the history of Interpol
  5. List at least five (5) international conventions in which the Interpol's transmission role is mentioned
  6. Become familiar with Interpol’s Global Police Communications System (I-24/7)
  7. Explain a procedure of police co-operation with Interpol in Kosovo and write the request for Interpol assistance.
