Summary

The goal of this lesson is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to structure an interview with a suspect or witness, and to provide an understanding of the value of good interviewing skills, especially in relation to interviewing the victim of trafficking.

At the conclusion of this lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. State the primary goal of a police investigation
  2. Outline the six (6) basic principles of Investigative Interviewing, according to European standards of democratic policing
  3. Outline the five (5) step model of investigative interviewing
  4. List the conversational techniques used by interviewers to facilitate dialogue.
