Summary

Enhancing cultural diversity, forces professional police officers to see people as individuals and appreciate people for who they are, taking into consideration their individual rights and their dignity. As human beings, KPS officers should each embrace the special uniqueness of every other person and respect and accept one another’s individual cultures, both within the police organisation and within the community.

The goal of this lesson is to give students the opportunity to gain knowledge, adopt attitudes, and develop skills that will assist them in becoming more culturally aware police officers.

At the conclusion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  1. Define each of the six (6) terms associated with human diversity, as provided in the lesson.
  2. List and define each of the three (3) elements that make people individuals according to the lesson.
  3. List the three (3) types of racism as taught in the class.
  4. List the seven (7) methods of building trust and rapport according to the lesson.
  5. List and explain the six (6) methods of bridging cultural barriers as described in the lesson.
  6. List the six (6) benefits of police understanding cultures which differ according to the lesson.
