Mission to Kosovo provided police officers with training on forensic locksmithing

Summary

In its efforts to support the Kosovo Police Technical Support Directorate in building its capacities to effectively assist criminal investigations, from 23 to 27 November the Mission to Kosovo provided five police officers with training on locksmithing. In line with its objective, this highly specialized training focused on improving the officers’ skills set in opening various locks and doors to install technical surveillance equipment in support to criminal investigations.

The training introduced the participants to lock systems and mechanisms, key machinery, various types and structures of barrel locks, interior door lock pickings and opening techniques. Additionally, with the officers providing all types of locks encountered during their daily duties, practical exercises were conducted on each of the locks available during the training. Moreover, particular attention was given to the human rights aspect during the application of covert measures in the area of locksmithing.
