Mission to Serbia strengthened skills of police officers on countering discrimination cases

Summary

On 19 April the Mission, together with the Commissioner for Protection of Equality and the Ministry of Interior, organized a workshop for more than twenty police officers at the Avala Police Training Centre. The aim of the workshop was to train police officers on international standards in the area of anti-discrimination and related legislation, thus strengthening their capacity to recognize and react properly to cases of discrimination. The Deputy Head of Mission delivered opening remarks at the event alongside Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic. In his remarks, the Deputy Head of Mission highlighted that police professionalization relied on continuing development of core policing skills, which includes human rights, equality and anti-discrimination training. This activity is part of the Mission’s wider efforts to foster mutual accountability in the relationship between the community and the police service.
