Summary

The manual presents important guidelines that aim to improve safety in local communities, based on European best practices and experiences. It calls for partnerships and cooperation between the police, local authorities, agencies and institutions, business and minority communities and citizens in resolving and preventing security and other problems.

This manual is intended for use by cities and municipalities and may be useful to others interested in public safety issues.The establishment and operation of a Safety Council is one of the priorities in the development of community policing in the Republic of Serbia. Community policing includes modern work methods for police that focuses on prevention and suppression of security threats and risks to life, health and property. The strategy of community policing in the Republic of Serbia was adopted in 2013.
