The Supervisor as an Evaluator of work performance

Description

Material for a 5-hour lesson, part of the Mid-Level Management Course, developed by the Kosovo Police Service School

Summary

As a subordinate you are being evaluated by the Cleaning Lady at the station you are assigned to. Your ratings are not as expected and you are very uncomfortable about it. Now you are at the same station and have to evaluate another subordinate you have just met. Could you and would you like it?

This is a couple of examples of poor evaluations systems that could control your future and are based on the information of someone that has not idea how, what evaluations are and most important what kind of individual you are. After all we have been told that we are the most important resource of any agency.

Lesson goal: Effectively conduct a performance evaluation and work performance counselling session with a subordinate.

It is hoped after this course that the student will be able to:

  1. Identify the goals of performance evaluations.

  3. What is the legal aspect of performance evaluations mean and give an example.
  4. List a least two of the Formal Evaluation systems in use.
