Training course on Preventing Terrorism and Countering Violent Extremism that Lead to Terrorism (P/C VERLT): A Community-Policing Approach

Description

A pilot training course organised jointly by the OSCE Transnational Department's Strategic Police Matters Unit and Action against Terrorism Units, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the Presence in Albania.

Summary

The training course was a 3-day training session for community policing officers and representatives from the Civil Society. The training course was operational and skills-based, thus following the same approach adopted in the Preventing Terrorism and Countering Violent Extremism that Lead to Terrorism: A Community Policing Approach Guidebook.

The training course aims to prepare the officers to work on prevention issues as well as to learn about signs and messages of violent extremism and radicalization that can lead to terrorism. The training course raised gender awareness of the participants and look at the different needs of men and women in their work.

The training course was co-delivered by one trainer with a human rights background (from ODIHR) and one experienced former counter-terrorism police officer from Northern Ireland.
